Alice and Alsitair went to the Philippines in March 2001 to see Zaidhe graduate from high school. Ash Bear, Alistair’s class mascot at Alice Smith School, accompanied Alistair and can be seen in every picture (except the map) if you look hard enough. This was initially prepared as a school report for the class to show to the other kids where Ash Bear had been, which explains the focus on the mascot throughout. 

Ash Bear was asked to join Alistair on a trip to see Alistair’s brother Zaidhe at his High School Graduation ceremony. The round trip required a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Manila, then a transfer to the Domestic Airport terminal and another flight to Cebu. Then a night ferry ride to Butuan, and a long bus ride to Mangagoy. To return, a long bus ride to Davao, a flight to Manila, a change of terminal and at last the flight back to Kuala Lumpur!

The evening before the flight Ash Bear joined Alistair and his mother for dinner at the Chee Fatt in Nilai, close to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. 

Next day the excited Ash Bear was first in the Jeep ready to set off on his travels.
