A shot from by the F1 circuit

From the moment you fly into KLIA you can feel the pleasant atmosphere that Malaysia has. Since I spent the period from 1995 to the end of 2003 first involved in its construction and then its operation I trust that you will think of me as you pass through.

Leaving the airport by road you will see the beautiful new mosque. This was aclaimed as a symbol for modern Islamic women, since the male symbols of the minarets were lower than the female symbol of the dome. This was a wonderful idea although required safety height to width ratios for buildings near to an airport actually dictated the relationship.

Not even out of the airport!
Traffic!
You will probably notice that the press of traffic within Kuala Lumpur means that you will see rather less of the upturned vehicles, such as this one at a roundabout within the KLIA grounds, than can be seen outside the city. KL is not as bad as Bangkok for slow moving traffic, but at peak periods it can be frustrating. However KL and its people are so pleasant as to make it worthwhile. It does take a certain mindset to be a driver in Malaysia though.
Driving into smoke
Palm plantation driving
Here we see over the bonnet of the jeep on a fairly main road as we wonder what we are about to come up to, and the jeep in the plantations, about as deep as I took photos of since in the areas with more ground cover I was not keen to jump out unnecessarily, the next page will indicate why.
