Melaka (or Malacca) is a very historical town, visited by many for that reason. We like it also but are more into the markets, and the various kids’ things around such as the famous A' Famosa Water World and Animal World Safari; both can just about be  done in a day (with some effort), but since this is quite a way out from Melaka itself transport is required. One thing I liked was my “gold card” work permit giving me a Malaysian rather than a tourist entry fee!
Closer to the town itself are:
  • Melaka Crocodile Park (not particularly impressive I thought)
  • Melaka Zoo
  • Butterfly Farm
  • Mini Malaysia
  • Mini Asean
  • The Bird Park Melaka
  • Below are a bullock cart, which is seen less often, even in rural Malaysia, these days but which can be seen at the places above and a real Kampong house.
  • Slow and sure travel
    A less citified home
    Not a big city
    Short on skyscrapers
Left is a view from the Renaissance Hotel looking along the river towards the Malay section and above is from the Equatorial looking to the sea. We changed normal bookings to the Equatorial due to its bar, where Alistair was allowed to sit with us and see the Philippine singers, unlike at the otherwise fine Renaissance.
    Rarely this empty of people
    Total tourist traps
At the famous square there are always the tricycles out for business, rather an expensive pleasure in my opinion, however they will take you over the bridge and to Yonker Street (now renamed officially but still known by the old name) where you can delight in blocking all motorised traffic.
    Over the river . . .
    . . . and blocking cars
